Established in 1969, BALAVIDYALAYA the School for young Deaf children is an Early Intervention Center for young Deaf Children. Admission is open throughout the year for deaf children below the age of 3 years regardless of race, religion and gender. There is no lower age for admission.

By the time the children are between 5 and 6 years they acquire age appropriate verbal language skills as well as Readiness Skills in reading, writing & arithmetic and leave BALAVIDYALAYA to join the 1st standard of regular schools.

EDUCATION AND DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO THE CHILDREN FULLY FREE

The school has the recognition of the Government of Tamilnadu, is Registered under the PWD Act 1995 and functions under the Department of Welfare of the Differently abled.

The school is under the Aegis of ‘The Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India’.

Balavidyalaya The Institute of Teacher Training offers a one year training – Diploma in Teaching Young Hearing Impaired (DTYHI). The course trains teachers to help infants and young children deaf or hard of hearing acquire speech and language skills and join the mainstream by the time they are five years old.

The Diploma is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India and the Government of Tamilnadu.

The RCI has accredited the Institute with EXCELLENT rating.
